O presente artigo visa analisar duas principais tendências do musical cinematográfico brasileiro no início século XXI, compreendendo um período de 2004 a 2016, as cinebiografias musicais e os musicais de garagem. Primeiramente o artigo irá desenhar o que entende como filme musical, partindo do desenvolvimento do gênero no cinema hollywoodiano e como o cinema brasileiro se apropriou desses elementos já no início do século XX. Em seguida partiremos para analisar como se constitui o ciclo contemporâneo de cinebiografias musicais, demonstrando como esses filmes se tornaram um filão comercial e refletem um diálogo constante entre cinema e canção popular. O passo seguinte é definir os chamados musicais de garagem. Partindo da noção de cinema de garagem, o trabalho irá demonstrar como essas produções de baixo orçamento vêm realizando produções musicais que desafiam certas convenções do gênero.

Juntamente com o comparativismo, este artigo analisa a relação interdisciplinar entre a história dos anos de chumbo e a violência ditatorial na narrativa de teor testemunhal O Leite em Pó da Bondade Humana (1983) de Haroldo Maranhão. Nesse viés, o objetivo do trabalho está em evidenciar como relações histórico ficcionais diante da tortura nessa obra, especificamente observando como ações políticas militares nesse período. Assim, a manifestação literária na narrativa, no contexto contemporâneo da literatura brasileira, permite perceber a opressão política militar, expondo as atrocidades sofridas durante os anos de chumbo no Brasil, em que descortina um cenário real vivenciado por pessoas que resistiram às repressões da época.

Commonplace in the Brazilian Expeditionary Force (FEB) historiography is a grievance towards the public, as it is acknowledged that most Brazilians ignore the deeds of the pracinhas. Through a comparative case study involving the FEB and the 2nd New Zealand Division, this paper sought to analyse the influences of the Italian Campaign on their literature and remembrance. It was observed that the sidelining of the Italian Campaign diminished the Home Front prominence of the Allied forces. However, this did not lead to a similar grievance in New Zealand’s literature, nor is their division perceived as forgotten. The evidences reveal that the explanation for the contrasting roles of the two units within the national memories rests with the different post-war governmental approaches towards their war stories. In turn, the grievance towards the public is an outcome of the FEB’s ordeal not being captured by the Brazilian collective memory.

Even though Gilberto Freyre is a renowned scholar of miscegenation theory, not much is known about his poetry. His collection Poesia Reunida (1980) [Collected Poetry], provides a rare glimpse of the sociologist as he addresses themes of women, family, slavery, and nostalgia.[i] Embodying Lusotropicalism, Poesia Reunida embraces multiracial ideology while maintaining a laissez-faire attitude toward the colonized Amerindian and enslaved African populations. Freyre deploys an imagistic vision to describe his memories of landscapes and to characterize Brazilian identity. Drawing upon T. E. Hulme, Ezra Pound, Amy Lowell, and Manuel Bandeira, this study offers a portrait of the sociologist as a poet of substance and describes how he struggles to transcend the limits of his miscegenation theories. Note [i] The first effort to collect Gilberto Freyre’s poems was Talvez Poesia,which brought together his collections and some individual poems, such as Brasiliana Litoral e Sertão, Encanta-Moça e Outros Encantamentos, Agôsto Azul e Outros Poemas Europeus, and África & Ásia, among others.

The 1964 coup in Brazil launched a military dictatorship that for two decades subjected diverse social groups to authoritarianism and repressive violence. In 1985, the last military president was replaced by a civilian government following an agreement between dissident factions of the dictatorship and a section of the democratic opposition. This agreed transition allowed the military institutions to remain untouched and united, preserved from punishment or any need to express regret, while the Constitution approved in 1988 tried to set the grounds for a lasting democracy. These events from the 1980s have continued to shape politics in Brazil, including the more recent political scenario, which from 2014 experienced a radical shift rightwards that strengthened those discourses nostalgic for the dictatorship and gave rise to the Bolsonarist phenomenon. The purpose of my presentation is to synthesize this process as a means to understand the present political situation. In the conclusion, I comment on the role of the military corporation in the current Lula government and develop some hypotheses concerning the political future of the armed forces in Brazil.

O artigo tem por objetivo discutir sobre os novos movimentos sociais e a participação cidadã como expressão das novas relações entre sociedade civil e Estado, que vão se construindo desde os anos 1980 e são instituídas na Constituição Federal de 1988 e as mudanças nestas relações em decorrência do projeto e contrarreformas neoliberais nas décadas seguintes. Trata-se de pesquisa bibliográfica, com revisão de literatura escolhida intencionalmente para atender aos objetivos da pesquisa. Conclui-se que desde os anos 1990 muitos movimentos sociais se transformaram em organizações não governamentais parceiras do Estado na execução de políticas sociais e como representantes em Conselhos de Políticas Sociais ou de Direitos, reduzindo o seu papel contestatório.

The assassination of the British journalist Dom Phillips and Brazilian expert on Indigenous peoples Bruno Pereira in the Amazon has become a symbol of the transformation’s role of the rainforest for the international status of Brazil. From an asset for the country, the destruction of nature has increased negative views of Brazil. This paper analyzes this reputational transformation. It combines three methods as following: (i) a qualitative study of the perceptions held by the foreign policy community of the P5 about the country; (ii) a review of the main changes of environmental policies under Bolsonaro, (iii) and a quantitative and systematic analysis of the international media coverage about Brazil’s image and, specifically, regarding the deaths of Phillips and Pereira. Based on these main analyses, the study argues that the progressive destruction of the Amazon has become a concrete liability for the status of the country.

O artigo discute a relação entre a avaliação institucional, a partir dos indicadores do ENADE e do CPC, e os elementos aplicados à construção de uma cultura de inovação com base nos elementos estabelecidos pela norma ISO 56002. A literatura destaca que ambos os elementos podem se relacionar no sentido de constituírem padrões para o estabelecimento de ações voltadas à inovação no âmbito dos cursos estudados, e indica possibilidades para a integração destes processos para a manutenção da qualidade institucional. Por meio de uma investigação qualitativa, pautada em um guia de entrevistas semiestruturado, foi possível investigar um conjunto de cursos de Administração que possuem conceitos 5 no ENADE e no CPC. Os resultados mostram que, mesmo em meio a críticas, tanto o ENADE quanto o CPC estabelecem elementos culturais que induzem praticas inovadoras nas IES investigadas. Ambos os indicadores fomentam uma cultura de apoio à inovação, de compartilhamento de conhecimento e favorecem o surgimento de novas lideranças. Além disso, os resultados também demonstram que o ENADE e o CPC favorecem ações baseadas em conhecimento e decisões estratégicas que podem considerar o potencial inovativo de seus resultados.

Book review of Ricardo Averbach's Villa-Lobos and Modernism

Brochura / Ebook. Karen de Melo Rosana Barbosa's third book Soccer and Racism. The Beginnings of Futebol in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, 1895-1933 stems from an undergraduate course that the author taught at St. Mary's University in 2014. Barbosa is a History professor and researcher of the history and issues of migratory ties in Brazil. She is also the author of Immigration and Xenophobia. Portuguese Immigrants in Early Nineteenth Century Rio de Janeiro (2009), and Brazil and Canada: Economic, Political, and Migratory Ties, 1820s to 1970s (2017). Barbosa's two previous books therefore cover respectively, the nineteenth century Portuguese migratory movements in Brazil, and the migratory exchange between Canada and Brazil between the 1828 and 1978. In Soccer and Racism, Barbosa sheds an interesting light on how the history of Black people and Portuguese immigrants has been intertwined with the history of soccer in Brazil.
