The purpose of this study is to evaluate public librarians' readiness to provide rural residents in the Capricorn District Municipality of Limpopo Province with digital library services. The central research question guiding this inquiry is: Are public librarians equipped to provide digital library services to rural inhabitants? The question is framed within the concept of ‘service quality’ from the DeLone and McLean information system success model (2003). The study employs a thematic and deductive analysis to align with its research objectives and structured approach. Deductive analysis was applied by establishing predefined categories, which were later used to classify and organize the data. Familiarization with the data was achieved through the interview process and the transcription of audio recordings. Transcription facilitated the coding process, enabling a simplified and focused examination of specific data attributes. The findings indicate that public librarians are indeed prepared to offer digital library services, provided they receive appropriate training and access to essential resources. These resources include smartphones, desktop andlaptop computers, online databases, e-books, telephones, stable Wi-Fi/internet connections, scanning devices, and adequate funding. The study also highlights several key skill areas requiring attention: digital literacy, user-support service, advanced information searching, online communication, presentation, computer operating skills, and digital information management skills. Assessing public librarians' preparedness to deliver digital library services underscores the commitment to bridging the digital gap and ensuring equitable access to information and learning resources for all member of society.

The aim of this research is to provide an updated status of publications on innovation in librarianship, using the SCOPUS database as the main source of information. The methodology adopted is quantitative with a descriptive approach, analyzing documents published between 2004 and 2023 that mention key terms related to innovation and librarianship. Among the main findings, the diversity in journal impact, measured by the SJR index, stands out, indicating significant variations in quality and prestige. Research trends were also identified, such as the integration of emerging technologies (artificial intelligence and augmented reality) and the adoption of new management models and personalized services. The conclusions point out that international cooperation in library research is crucial, as it allows for the exchange of ideas and best practices, thus enriching the quality and impact of research. Furthermore, it is highlighted that libraries that adopt innovative approaches not only optimize their operations, but also reinforce their relevance as centers of learning, information and culture. It is suggested that future research should focus on exploring new ways of integrating emerging technologies into library management and services.

This article presents the results of the educational innovative project “Comics in the school library”, focused on the process of integrating comics as part of the library collection in a public Elementary school in Barcelona (Spain). In this case study, a collaborative approach between school and university was taken to examine collectively the role of comics in the school reading practices and, specifically, in the school library. This article presents a qualitative analysis of the process of rethinking comics in the school, with diverse data gathered through direct observation, documentary reports of the school library collection, questionnaires (to students), and interviews (to students, teachers, librarians, and family members). The research of this transformative experience has allowed, on one hand, to document the positioning of the educational community regarding comics as part of the school collection and, on the other hand, to analyse the challenges that appeared throughout the project. The analysis of the data reveals key aspects to consider in the effort of giving more importance to comics in school, such as to define the criteria to select the comics, to envision strategies to train the teachers, and to plan its use in the school space and practices to ensure its promotion. This article illustrates the great importance of the school library as a strategic space to impulse the promotion of comics in the school context, as well as the needs, debates and challenges that arise from this integration process.

In this article, a detailed review of the research that works on usability heuristics to examine the web spaces of university libraries is proposed. The objective is to detect the usability heuristics necessary to evaluate the websites of university libraries, according to scientific literature, between 2012 and 2022. The research was developed using the systematic review methodology, specifically the scoping review modality, applied to six bibliographic databases. Among the results, it is established that there are three categories of heuristics: matching, non-matching and those that have been expressly designed for university libraries. It is concluded that the development of heuristics for university libraries is incipient and that the analysis of a space as complex as this requires a layered heuristic evaluation and the application of different evaluation instruments depending on the purpose of the service and the content of the website.

Bibliographic collections are part of the academic and cultural heritage of our society, their preservation and conservation is of utmost importance so that the information they contain can be accessible to future generations. Safeguarding information is one of the most important tasks of libraries. However, a document that must be digitized for preservation can be subjected to a lot of stress if the process is carried out with commercial scanning devices. It is for this reason that it is necessary to train future information professionals in the process of digitizing bibliographic material in a state of conservation. To achieve this, a teaching strategy was created that includes master classes on basic principles of converting analog to digital material, resolutions for each type of material, white balance and color theory. In addition, as part of the teaching strategy, videos were created that explain the proper handling of the material when digitizing, the camera configuration, the capture process, the editing of the material and the creation of an electronic document. Finally, the students participated in a virtual practical workshop where, by themselves, they completed the process of digitizing bibliographic material using what they learned in class. To evaluate the experience, an instrument was provided to the group of students who participated in the teaching strategy, thus allowing their opinion to be known about the level of approach to the topic that they may have had.
