Mobile textula: a possible new way of reawakening the marginalized Philippine poetry

Introduction: Poetry has long been part of any cultural and literary heritage. Despite poetry’s role in Philippine literature, the 21st-century Filipino learners lack the knowledge about folk poetry. Poems sent through short messaging service (SMS) or mobile textula were then introduced to capture the interest of the Filipino millennial learners. However, studies say little about this emerging means of literary propagation. Anchored in the Social Construction of Technology (SCOT) Theory, this study aimed to contribute to the body of knowledge to reawaken the marginalized Philippine poetry.
 Method: Through external desk research, this qualitative study delved into the history, type, sample poems, and the possibility of using mobile textula to reinforce the 21st-century Filipino learners' understanding of the marginalized Philippine poetry. \
 Result: After an integrative literature review of various sources (full paper in conference proceedings, journal articles, education-related sites, and online news), it was found that mobile textula was made known in 2002 through the "Textanaga Contest," the first text-a-poem contest in the Philippines which gathered 10,000 poems on its launching day. Sample poems were that of the tanaga, dalit, and diona which are considered marginalized poetry among the generation of modern Filipinos. Moreover, a private college in one of the provinces in Luzon saw the effectivity of textula in teaching language, literature, and socio-cultural awareness.
 Discussion: Therefore, the study suggests that teachers consider the use of textula in teaching literature. Further, a wide scope of an experimental study on the effectiveness of textula in the classroom is recommended.

Implementation of Android-based Application for learning Legu Salai Dance

The development of the technology has influenced the way of learning. Besides the conventional learning, the Android-based applications which run on smartphones potentially become complement for learning process. The implementation of Android application has developed in various fields including art and culture. This research mainly discusses about the implementation of the Legu Salai dance learning application, which is built based on Android and testing the functionality of the application. The purpose of making the application is to introduce the Legu Salai dance, to provide related information about the dance and as a learning tool of the dance movements. The research stage uses the Waterfall methods which is modeled by Unified Modeling Language. The application is built using the Java programming language, while the testing process uses the black box testing method. User who want to learn the Legu Salai dance can install the applications on Android smartphone and can accessed the available features. The application can display information about Legu Salai dance in the form of text, images, audio and video. The test results indicate that the application can function according to its design. This application can be an alternative medium to learn and introduce the Legu Salai dance as one of Indonesia’s cultural wealth. For future development, the features of the application can be extended by adding the information about the variation and formation the Legu Salai dance and also provide the information about the traditional costume which is wear by the dancer.

Effectiveness of Moodle E-learning for Students Enrolment of GENL 1101 ‘Learning Resources and Skills’ at Asia-Pacific International University

The objectives of this research were 1) to study the level of student satisfaction and learning in the classroom using Moodle e-learning, 2) to compare the differences between personal factors and the effectiveness of teaching and learning through Moodle e-learning, and 3) to apply the results of the study as a guideline for the development of decision-making to choose whether to use the blended learning model using Moodle e-learning. The population and the sample groups were 103 first year undergraduate students at Asia-Pacific International University. Questionnaires were used to elicit student responses. The statistics used in the research were mean, standard deviation (SD), t-test, and one-way ANOVA. The results of this study show that students’ level of satisfaction with teaching and learning in the classroom using Moodle e-learning is at a moderate level. When comparing the differences, it was found that the satisfaction level of the students with different genders and ages with teaching in the classroom using Moodle e-learning is not different. However, it was found that students from different fields of study had different levels of satisfaction with statistically significant level of 0.05. The study showed motivation of learning both in and out of classroom in used of Moodle program in order to benefit the study.

The Effect of Parental Support on Academic Performance Among Students at Asia-Pacific International University

The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of parental support on college students’ academic performance of Asia-Pacific International University (AIU) in Thailand. The research aimed to investigate the relationship between parental support and academic achievement among Thai and International students at AIU in Thailand. In addition, the study sought to find out the level of parental support among Thai and International students at AIU, and the differences in parental support. Using stratified sampling, ,60 undergraduate students aged between 17 years to 25 years old from five Asia-Pacific International University (AIU) dormitories were selected to participate in this study. A survey instrument for data collection consisted of a demographic questionnaire and a Likert-scale questionnaire. The data were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) for Windows, Version 21. An independent samples t-test was used to determine the differences between Thai and International students on parental support. Spearman rho correlation coefficients between parental involvement variables and cumulative grade point averages (CGPA) were reported. The findings revealed that academic performance cannot be adequately explained by parental support. Findings of this study also showed that although there is positive influence on the family relationship between the parents and students at the college level, it does not adequately explain academic performance among students. The present study was an attempt to inform college administrators and educators of the importance of parental support at the university level. Therefore, the main recommendation is that, college administrators should look into how parents support their college students and establish strategies for encouraging emotional and social parental support to children in college...For further research necessary to consider the varying impacts of parental support within the lives of the children, such as investigating the impact of having little or no parental support.

USE OF ZPT AND PLANTING MEDIA ON THE GROWTH OF MYCELIUM OYSTER MUSHROOM (Pleurotus ostreatus)

White Oyster mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus) is an alternative food for the society because of its high nutrients content. This study uses of ZPT and media to see the grow of the mycelium white oyster mushroom. Media used are the boiling water extract of nuts (green beans, soy bean, peanuts, beans of string bean, and beans of nut snaps) and ZPT (Naphthalene Acetic Acid and Kinetin). Anova was used to analyze the data at a significant level of α = 0.05. The results shows that: (1) There’s a significant effect of ZPT and Non-ZPT on the mycelium growth with p=0.000, Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) shows that Kinetin is highest contribution to the significancy of Anova; (2) planting media used in the study shows a significant differences on the mycelium growth with p=0039, Duncan Multiple Range Test shows that beans of long bean and soy bean are the highest contribution to the significancy of Anova; (3) time/days of observation done in the study shows a significant differences on the mycelium growth with p=0000, Duncan Multiple Range Test shows that T6 or day 14 of observation shows the highest contribution to the significancy of Anova; (4) the interaction of ZPT, Non-ZPT and planting media show a significant differences on the mycelium growth p=0000; (5) the interaction of ZPT, Non-ZPT and time show a significant differences on the mycelium growth with p=0000; (6) the interaction of media and planting time show a significant differences on the mycelium growth with p=0000; and (7) the interaction of ZPT, Non-ZPT and planting media and time do not affect significantly the mycelium growth with p=0053.
