Values of particle parameters used for the analysis of angular correlations involving internal-conversion electrons are presented. Directional particle parameters are given for the K- , L- , and M -subshells and for the total L - and M -shells. Polarization particle parameters are given for the K -shell. The calculations have been performed for the four lowest electric and magnetic multipoles for all Z -values from 30 to 103 and for electron energies varying from 6 to 1500 keV above threshold. Only the particle parameters of lower rank are given. Those of higher rank can be found from the recurrence relations presented. A table of F -coefficients is included.

Values of the internal conversion coefficient, number of electrons per photon emitted in a nuclear transition, are presented from a new relativistic self-consistent-field calculation which takes into account finite nuclear size, hole and exchange effects, experimental electron binding energies, and vacuum polarization. Coefficients are given for each value of Z; for K, L, and M electron shells and L- and M-sub-shells; for nuclear-transition multipolarities E1…E4, M1…M4; and for various nuclear-transition energies up to 1500 keV. A program for finding values for other energies by spline interpolation is appended.

Stopping-power S and R tables for protons, deuterons, tritons, 3 He, 4 He, and 7 Li ions of energies between 1- and 200-MeV penetrating silicon absorbers are presented. Auxillary data are included in tables for the coefficents C and α needed for the approximate expression S = C·E α and in figures giving the energy dependence for the coefficients of R = C R ·E β . Included is a short review of principles to be considered in detector applications.

Compton polarimeters have played an important role in the study of nuclear structure physics, but have often been limited in their applications because of relatively low γ-ray detection efficiency. With the advent of γ-ray tracking detector arrays, which feature nearly 4π solid angle coverage and the ability to identify the location of Compton-scattering events to within a few millimeters, this limitation can be overcome. Here we present a characterization of the performance of the Gamma Ray Energy Tracking In-beam Nuclear Array (GRETINA) as a Compton polarimeter using the 24Mg(p,p′) reaction at 2.45 MeV proton energy. We also discuss a new capability added to the simulation package UCGretina to simulate the emission of polarized photons, and compare it to the measured data. Finally, we use these simulations to predict the performance of the Gamma Ray Energy Tracking Array (GRETA).

Optical model calculations for neutron differential elastic scattering cross sections and total cross sections have been made for the following target nuclei at selected neutron energies between 0 and 16 MeV: 6,7 Li, 9 Be, 10,11 D, 12 C, 14 N, 15 O, 23 Na, 24 Mg, 27 Al, 28 Si, 35 Cl, 39 K, 40 Ca, 48 Ti, 51 Vi, 52 Cr, 55 Mn, 56 Fe, 58 Ni, 59 CO, 62 Ni, 69 Ga, 80 Se, 89 Y, 93 Nb, 98 Mo, 103 Rh, 114 Cd, 115 In, 118 Sn, 127 I, 184 W, 208 Pb, 209 Bi, 232 Th, 234,23,236,237,238 U, 239, 240 Pu Comparison is made with experimental data.

Adopted values for the reduced electromagnetic transition probability, B(E2)ex, from the ground to the first-excited 2+-state of even-even nuclei are given in Table I. Values of β2, the quadrupole deformation parameter, and of T, the mean life of the 2+ state, are also listed there. Table II presents the data on which Table I is based, namely the experimental results for B(E2)ex values with quoted errors. The literature has been covered to January 1965. The ratio of the value of β2 to values expected from the single-particle model is presented graphically as a function of neutron number. As an indication of the extent of collective features in nuclear structure, this ratio seems a better measure than the value of β2 itself.

Values are presented of the definite integral I ( Z, T max ), which is related to the relative number, N , of electrons in a β − -group with end point energy T max by the simple expression N = a 2 T max 2 I ( Z , T max ), where a is the y -intercept in the Fermi-Kurie plot, I ( Z , T max ) = ∫ 0 T max f ( Z , T ) h ( T ) d T , where f is the Fermi function and h ( T ) = ( T + 1 ) ( 1 − T / T max ) 2 [ T ( T + 2 ) ] − 1 / 2 T max − 2 . The Z -ranges is 10(1)109; the T max -range is 0.1(0.05)0.4, 0.5(0.1)5.2.

Fast neutron cross sections for (n, p), (n, t), (n, α), (n, 2n), (n, np), and (n, nα) reactions, leading to all possible final states, are presented in graphic form. Neutron energies range up to 20 MeV. Targets include nuclei from H 2 to U 238 . The compilation covers data available in June 1965.

Brief description of comprehensive tables of Clebsch-Gordan, Racah, Wigner, and related coefficients are presented in the first section and, in the second, of tables of coefficients of Legendre polynomials in angular-distribution expressions. The present lists, which cover material available to us up to June 1966, supersede those in Section 3 of the 1958 Directory to Nuclear Data Tabulations1 and its supplements.2, 3 Bibliographies of some abridged tables and review articles in the same field are included in the third and fourth sections.
