The Relationship of Hot Work Climate on Physiological Response in Traditional Clover Leaf Oil Refining Workers

In the clove leaf oil refining process which uses steam, it produces a hot temperature residue which affects clove leaf oil refinery workers. Exposure to a hot working climate can have an impact on human physiological responses such as an increase in body temperature, pulse rate, blood pressure and weight loss. as a result of producing quite a lot of sweat fluid. This research aims to investigate the physiological responses of clove leaf oil refinery workers to exposure to a hot working climate. In the clove leaf oil refining process, which utilizes steam, the production of hot temperature residue affects the workers. Exposure to such conditions can lead to various physiological responses, including increased body temperature, pulse rate, blood pressure, and weight loss due to significant sweating. Employing a quantitative research design with a cross-sectional analytical approach, data were collected from all 22 workers using a total sampling technique. The primary data collected were subjected to analysis using paired simple t-tests and the Pearson correlation test to explore relationships between variables. The findings reveal significant increases in physiological responses post-work, including elevated body temperature, pulse rate, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, and a reduction in body weight. The obtained p-values for all variables were <0.05, indicating statistically significant differences between pre-work and post-work conditions. Furthermore, the Pearson correlation test analysis between heat stress data and post-work physiological responses, including body temperature, pulse rate, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, as well as body weight, revealed moderate to strong correlations (r). These results underscore the detrimental impact of hot working climates on the physiological well-being of clove leaf oil refinery workers. Such findings highlight the urgent need for implementing appropriate measures to mitigate heat-related health risks in occupational settings, safeguarding the health and safety of workers.

The Effects of General Anesthesia on Infants and Children's Later Development: A Comprehensive Systematic Review

The relationship between pediatric neurodevelopment and general anesthesia has been the subject of numerous investigations, yet consensus remains elusive. Objective: This review aims to explore the connection between anesthesia and child development. We conducted a thorough search of Google Scholar, PubMed, and ProQuest databases from January 2000 until March 2024, using relevant search terms such as “Adolescent,” “Anesthesia, General/ adverse effects,” “Child,” “Child Development / drug effects,” and “Preschool” resulted in 40 out of 1572 studies for reviewed. The review focused on assessing the impact of general anesthesia on children's development, excluding studies involving children with significant comorbidities or lacking unexposed controls. Two coders independently evaluated the studies, adhering to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews criteria. Our analysis of 40 primary studies unveiled a broad spectrum of outcomes regarding the impact of general anesthesia on infants and children's subsequent development. Across cognitive domains, anesthesia altered academic achievements, IQ, and language proficiency. Sensory responses were diverse, with anesthesia affecting manual dexterity, balance, and sensory performance uniquely. Psychosocially, it influenced behavior, social skills, and neuropsychological disorders, while neurodevelopmental concerns were also identified. In summary, the effects of general anesthesia on various developmental domains underscore the need for cautious consideration in medical practice. This review revealed cognitive decline, diverse sensory impacts, and increased behavioral issues, anxiety, and neurodevelopmental disorders associated with general anesthesia. Understanding these effects is crucial for implementing effective prevention and management strategies to mitigate long-term complications.

Analysis of Service Quality Using Potential “Gain in Value” Method in Outpatient Polyclinic of X Hospital in Bali

Private hospitals continue strive to improve patient satisfaction. In measuring the level of satisfaction of hospital patients, currently the IPA (Importance-Performance Analysis) method can be used. Even though the IPA score is high, in reality there are still complaints from people who are undergoing outpatient care. This is because the hospital has not prioritized what services need to be repaired and improved. The purpose of this research is to find out which attributes need to be prioritized in improving hospital services. This study uses Potential Gain in Customer Value (PGCV) method. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 30 patients undergoing outpatient care. Respondents were randomly selected from various age groups and backgrounds. Subsequently, the data were analyzed using the PGCV method to identify which attributes have the highest potential value gain. The research findings indicate that the attribute requiring improvement is "Patient administration department is responsive to patient problems", while the last priority is "Availability of information about service procedures". Recommendations based on these findings include conducting routine training for patient administration staff on the importance of effective communication and empathy towards patient concerns. Additionally, emphasis should be placed on interpersonal skills, complaint handling, and problem resolution, ensuring that administrative staff have open channels of communication to promptly receive and address such reports.
