Abstract

The author examines the view of history as depicted in an exhibition catalogue focusing on 40 years of media in the German Democratic Republic. The essay goes far beyond discussion of the catalogue and contains strong criticism of the presentation of histroric facts. The author not only accuses the writer of the catalogue of manipulation and falsifying history but also attempts to prove that the old cadres in charge of broadcasting in the GDR fougth,,tooth and nail to defend their positions after the collapse of communism. This essay represents an interesting study of th practices of former GDR functionaries and how they adapted to the new situation created by the unification of the two former German states.
