Abstract

Manufacturers of agricultural sprayers are looking for innovative solutions to reduce the amount of crop protection products applied to crop fields while maintaining high treatment efficiency. Legal changes, economic factors and farmers’ awareness are the main elements driving the development of new solutions. The latest and most technologically advanced agricultural sprayers use vision systems that allow precise application of herbicides only where weeds are present. The use of artificial intelligence algorithms in these systems makes it possible to extend the functionality of sprayers, enabling them to distinguish between weeds and cultivated plants, identify the types and amounts of weeds, and generate weed density maps, according to the principles of precision agriculture. The publication presents the most interesting innovative solutions, according to the authors, using vision systems and artificial intelligence algorithms in agricul¬tural sprayers.
