Abstract

Relationship between the structure of plant sterols and their retention behaviour in gas chromatography on several stationary phases The relative retention times of 49 plant sterols were determined as their trimethylsilyl ethers on 8 different stationary phases. Separation characteristics are derived from the gas chromatographic behaviour of the different types of double bonds and other structural specificities. Proper choice of a stationary phase for optimal separation of critical pairs is facilitated by the separation factors.
