Abstract

It is shown that an approximation of e − x on [0, ∞) by rational functions of degree n cannot be better than 52 −n. This improves the bound given by Rahman and Schmeiβer, ( J. Approx. Theory, 23 (1978), 246–254; Trans. Amer. Math. Soc., 235 (1978), 395–402).
