Abstract
A tribochemical process permits to passivate the surface of austenitic V2A-steel which succumbs to a strain-induced martensitic transformation leading to corrosion. On the specimen surface there is formed a passive layer composed of Al 2O 3 and MeOAl 2O 3 (Me: Fe, Cr, Ni), when it is rubbed mechanically with the alumina suspension. The magnetocatalytic effect contributes to the formation of the passive layer in question.
