Abstract

Summary Large scale control measures against Dasychira pudibunda L., Lymantria monache L., Bupalus piniarius L. and Panolis flammea Schiff. with TIFA fog generators using less than 1 kg DDT-active ingredient per ha reduced the parasites of these pests only slightly. Diesel oil spray (1,1 kg DDT-active ingredient per ha) sprayed from a helicopter is more detrimental to the fauna because of its use in the daytime. After treatment of insufficiently sprayed areas is very harmful. Psocoptera, Arachnoidea and to some extent Collembola, Carabidae and Chalcididae are particularly threatened by DDT treatment. An assessment for the egg parasite Trichogramma evanescens Wests. was impracticable in nature. Bees suffer no loss worth mentioning. The surviving parasites lower the pest population of adjoining woodlands. The recolonization and replenishment of the fauna of treated areas takes place relatively quickly. Pest control using the lowest possible amount of insecticide causes no serious loss to the biocoenose.
