Abstract

The dynamic behavior of an adiabatic catalytic fixed-bed reactor with a highly exothermic reaction is simulated in the region of multiple steady states, using a one-dimensional diffusion model. The influence of the effective diffusion and the effective heat-conduction upon the dynamic behavior (ignition and blow-out) is discussed. It is found that there exists a large region of the inlet-temperature where two stable steady states are possible. In addition a special dynamic effect is shown for the non-adiabatic reactor.
