Abstract

Zr55Cu30Al10Ni5 (at.%) amorphous sheets with thickness of ~0.5 mm and width of ~75 mm were successfully fabricated by twin-roll strip casting. The amorphous alloy sheets fabricated using a high rolling force exhibited a high-energy state, a high free-volume content, and structural inhomogeneity, which led to an engineering strain greater than 62% in compression at room temperature. This study provides an effective method for fabricating large amorphous alloy sheets with good plasticity.
