Abstract
Zoomorphic figurines of Anubis have usually comprised parts of larger objects such as coffins, shrines and canopic chests. The statuettes were made of wood, stone and sometimes of metal. Typology include three different postures of Anubis. This figurines symbolize a permanent care of the dead body or entrails, because Anubis was giving hope for resurrection and eternal life.

Balsamista, kreator nowego wizerunku człowieka dostosowanego do warunków panujących w zaświatach. Względy estetyczne nie były priorytetowe, to jednak od nich i od technik produkcyjnych należy rozpocząć omawianie figurek Anubisa. Zoomorficzne figurki Anubisa, mimo że zostały wykonane według tego samego wzorca, różnią się od siebie kształtem, wielkością, jakością technologiczną surowca, z którego zostały utworzone. Zapewne inaczej była wykonana figurka Anubisa przeznaczona dla władcy Egiptu, a inaczej dla zwykłego człowieka, który chciał posiadać przedstawienie tego boga w swoim skromnym grobie, jeśli oczywiście było go w ogóle na to stać. Figurki Anubisa były wykonywane z jednego kawałka drewna (nie wliczając ogona) albo z dwóch lub więcej części łączonych za pomocą czopów bądź sklejanych klejem stolarskim lub żywicą. Ogon z reguły był tworzony osobno i nabijany w otwór pod figurką lub wsuwany w otwór znajdujący się w jej tylnej części. Z którego wytwarzano figurki Anubisa, był kamień, najczęściej wapień, czasami bazalt Prawdopodobnie w wyniku pomyłki tworzono mięsko łzowe także w zewnętrznych kącikach oczu, tak jak to najlepiej widać w przypadku zoomorficznej figury Anubisa z grobowca Tutanchamona
