Abstract
Abstract The stratigraphy of faulted calcareous massifs in the western Peloponnesus, east of the front of the Pinde nappe, is examined. The Klokova, Skolis, Lapithos, and Pylos massifs, directly bordering the front of the nappe belong to the Gavrovo zone. Surrounded by discordant Pliocene, they are post-paroxysmal, late Miocene and Pliocene. The Cape Pappas massif displays an upper Cretaceous to Eocene series with facies corresponding to the Ionian zone, further north. The island of Zante belongs to the Preapulian zone. The Ionian trough is observed to be narrower in Peloponnesus than in northern Greece, suggesting an axial termination to the south.
