Abstract
Thermal and radiation belts, which are determined mainly by solar radiation and atmospheric circulation, must be clearly differentiated from natural zones, which reflect a unity of bioclimatic characteristics and depend largely on heat-moisture relationships. Although the zonal pattern is well expressed within the Russian plain, it is a particular case of limited distribution on the earth's surface as a whole. In physical-geographic regionalization, it is logically fallacious to combine typological criteria with the criteria of integrated landscape regionalization.
