Abstract

Cubic crystalline ZnSe/PVP nanocomposites were synthesized by pulsed laser ablation using Nd: YAG laser at 532 nm wavelength, 7ns pulse width, and 10 Hz repetition rate. The optical characterizations were done using UV-Visible spectrophotometer and fluorometer. The band gap of the synthesized nanocomposite was obtained directly from the Tauc plot as 3.87 eV, showing the applicability in the field of optoelectronics. The composite formation is confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Structural and phase properties were analysed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Nonlinear optical studies were carried out using the z-scan set up in both nanosecond (Q-switched Nd: YAG laser at 532 nm wavelength and 7 ns pulse width) and femtosecond (Mode-locked Ti: Sapphire laser at 800 nm wavelength and 150 fs pulse width) excitation regime. The extracted nonlinear optical absorptive and refractive parameters ensure the potentiality of the nanocomposite as a good optical limiter.
