Abstract

The article presents a report on phenomenographic qualitative research conducted with 10 adults with intellectual disabilities who identify themselves as Catholics. The research allowed to answer questions about the meanings assigned by the participants to faith, determine the nature of their experiences in the field of religious practices and identify facilitators and constraints that contribute to the implementation of these practices. The findings indicated that faith and religion plays an important role in most participants’ lives: they attend worship services and pray, feeling that it helps them cope with difficulties and tragedies. Based on the findings we recommend including people with intellectual disabilities in religious practices. Keywords: disabled people, faith, religion, phenomenography, Catholics, faith
