Abstract

In her article, the author, utilising data from the Central Statistical Office (GUS), carried out an analysis of the developments occurred in retail trade in Poland in 1989–2008. These are property-related, quantitative and qualitative developments manifesting themselves in a dynamic development of large trade facilities (supermarkets, hypermarkets, discount stores, shopping centres) functioning within the framework of chains, development of small shops operating according to the original development strategies (integration, specialisation, carrying out activities in the market niche, application of up-to-date information technologies in company management).
