Abstract

Abstract Metal-organic frameworks of zirconium-based and hafnium-based DUT67 were prepared through solvothermal method and using 2,5-thiophenedicarboxylate as linkers to connect metal clusters. Samples were characterized using powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and N2 adsorption-desorption. Zr- and Hf-DUT67 were applied for catalytic transfer hydrogenation (CTH) of ethyl levulinate to selectively produce γ-valerolactone using alcohols as hydrogen donors. The effects of different alcohols, temperature and time on the reaction were studied. Hf-based DUT67 performed excellent catalytic activity in the presence of isopropanol and 2-butanol, particularly.
