Abstract
Thermal ratchets are Brownian models where time correlated nonequilibrium fluctuations interacting with a spatially asymmetric potential are sufficient conditions to give rise to rectified transport. The nonequilibrium fluctuations act as a source of negentropy (physical information). Data compression techniques are used here to quantify the transfer of information in thermal ratchet motion.
