Abstract

The ZnII ion slides smoothly over an “O8” surface on the NMR spectroscopic timescale. The surface is formed by two phenol oxygen atoms, two phenoxy oxygen atoms, and four sulfonyl oxygen atoms of an analogue of p-tert-butylcalix[4]arene in a cone conformation in which the bridging methylene groups are replaced by sulfonyl moieties (see scheme). tacn=1,4,7-triazacyclononane.
