Abstract

To the Editor.— Because of the recent interest in the use of zinc for the treatment of acrodermatitis enteropathica and acne, I would like to report still another possible indication for the use of this agent. About two years ago, I saw a patient who was being given 220 mg of oral zinc sulfate (equivalent to 50 mg of elemental zinc) three times daily by his surgeon as part of the management of recurrent leg ulcers. This observant gentleman noted that while he was taking zinc there was a marked reduction in axillary perspiration odor. This problem, which had been most distressing to him for most of his adult life, returned within days after the zinc was discontinued. When he again started taking the capsules, the odor again markedly diminished (confirmed by his wife). Based on this observation, I have given zinc sulfate to five other persons, with uniformly good
