Abstract

Sol-gel technique was adapted to synthesize Zinc Oxide quantum dots of size less than 10 nm. The tuning of median sized quantum dots can be achieved with controlled consumption of Zinc precursors. Quantum confinement has been spotted due to the phenomenon of photoluminescence and chemical absorption. The bandgap extension is in correspondence with the theory of the effective mass model. It was noticed, that the shrink in particle size resulted in an increment of the Stokes shift. The procedure of germination of quantum sized Zinc Oxide by the technique of sol-gel has been described. The processed ZnO quantum dots were further utilized as the electrode for organic dye solar cells.
