Abstract

In this research work, we prepared a new zinc doped bioglass composite by a sol-gel route. The bioactivity evaluation was done by soaking the sample in simulated body fluids for different time periods. Formation of hydroxyapatite layer on the surface of the bioglass was confirmed by the FTIR spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, Field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM) with energy dispersive spectroscopy after immersion of the prepared glass powders in simulated body fluid (SBF) for time durations varying between 2 and 21 days. After the in-vitro study FTIR results show the presence of a phosphate group. Structural morphology explains the nano size of the bioglass powders using High-Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy (HRTEM) and study of the hydroxyapatite was done by using FESEM. Two bacteria E-coli and S-aureus were used to study the antimicrobial effects on the prepared bioglass and both the bacteria shows the antimicrobial effects and effective to kill the microorganisms.
