Abstract

Summary 1. A modification of Birckner's method for the determination of zinc was developed whereby the interfering iron and manganese were removed. 2. The zinc content of human, cow, and sheep's milk was determined at various intervals throughout the lactation period. 3. Little difference was noted in the zinc content of human, cow, and sheep's milk. 4. A marked decrease in the zinc content of milk was noted during the first few days of the lactation period. During the middle normal portion of the lactation period the zinc content of the milk was about constant, but increased in amount at the end.
