Abstract

The ligands L1Et and L2Et were synthesised and hydrolysed in situ to form carboxylates, utilising methods previously established, for the purpose of investigating the ability of carboxylate functionalised pyridyl tetrazoles to form coordination polymers. These ligands were then reacted with ZnCl2 and displayed interesting coordination chemistry as the position of the alkylation site appeared to have some effect on the coordination sphere of the metal centre. Solid state fluorescence spectroscopy was carried out on Zn(II) compounds and their corresponding free acid ligands at room temperature. The crystal structure of L1Et was also solved and showed the co-planarity of the two rings.
