Abstract

Absorption and transport of zinc were measured using sunflower plants cultured in nutrient solution with 65Zn as a tracer. Five different zinc sources were evaluated: ZnHA with complete humic acid; ZnHA medium, with medium molecular weight humic fraction; ZnHA high, with the high molecular weight humic fraction; Zn-EDTA and ZnCl 2. The plants were found to absorb more zinc from ZnHA medium than from the other sources, both after 48 and 96 h. Little difference was observed in the amount absorbed from the other sources. The relative importance of humic acids in the micronutrient intake of plants is discussed.
