Data used in this study were collected from 400 households through questionnaire in June 1998. The Independent Double Hurdle Model has been selected as the most appropriate form considering the nature of data used. The variables used in the model are: household total expenditure, price of olive oil, sunflower oil, butter and other liquid oil, household size by age categories, education level of women as a food consumption planner and percent of income recipients in the households. Both economic (expenditure and prices) as well as socio-demographic factors considered have an influence on household demand of olive oil in the urban area of Adana.
