Abstract

To further verify the previously observed relationship between the zeta potential and the surface free energy changes (for sulfur/ n-alkane-water and Teflon/ n-alkane-water systems), the quartz/ n-heptane-water system has been studied in this paper. The high purity (>99.99%) quartz samples were pretreated in different ways. The results obtained confirm again a possibility of the film pressure determination for hydrophobic (or hydrophobized) solids in water from the streaming potential measurements, and then, their surface dispersion free energy.
