Abstract

This work systematically demonstrates the process of achieving zero-photoelastic constant compositions in the TeO2-ZnO-Li2O-Bi2O3 quaternary system by carefully adjusting each component step by step. For each component variation, Raman spectroscopy was conducted and a structure/property correlation is proposed. Finally, this work presents two glass compositions with refractive index difference of 0.014 (78TeO2-3ZnO-16Li2O-3Bi2O3 and 78-TeO2-7ZnO-12Li2O-3Bi2O3 glasses) which have compatible thermal properties. These materials were fibered together to obtain a single-mode fiber that can be tightly bent after coating.
