Abstract

Metamaterials with zero phase delay can guide light over hundreds of wavelengths without introducing phase variations so as to reduce the unwanted effects of frequency dispersion, which has been widely studied by researchers in the world. Based on the research works of our group, in this paper we summarize and review the latest theoretical and experimental researches and progress of metamaterials with zero phase delay. The mechanisms of phase modulations to realize zero phase delay in various metamaterials are classified and concluded. Further analyses are carried out on the characteristics and present research problems of various methods to realize zero phase delay, and the prosperous future are forecasted. We believe the related investigations are of great significance to the development of fundamental physics and the design of optical devices.
