Abstract

The profession of the individual directly affects life satisfaction. Doing the profession you are satisfied with keeps you mentally healthy. Gifted people who use their abilities and who are satisfied with their work can accomplish great things. If we think in this context, gifted people should be guided correctly by their families and at the Science and Art Centers where they study. There is no research on the choice of profession of gifted students. Considering the importance of a gifted student's orientation to the profession in which he will be most productive, the findings obtained from the project will eliminate the deficiency in the field, and will serve as a recommendation on the method to be applied in Science and Art Centers for choosing a profession. The study will also be effective in drawing attention to gifted students. The research was conducted in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th weeks of November in the 2017-2018 academic year with 93 general mental ability students who were educated in an institution in Adana where gifted students were educated together. It was investigated whether there is compatibility between the personality type determined by Holland scale and the personality type in which the student wants to choose. The findings show that 69.9% of the gifted students participating in the study are incompatible with their profession preference and personality type. Gifted students could not define themselves sufficiently and did not choose a profession suitable for their personality. While 30.1% of the gifted students participating in the study chose a profession suitable for the personality type, 43.3% of the students whose parents did not interfere with the child's profession preference chose a profession suitable for his/her personality type. In this case, it can be concluded that the wishes of parents are also effective in the inconsistency of students' personality types and career choices.
