Abstract

Collecting newspapers has by no means been a success story in the history of German's libraries, archives and museums. This article attempts to give a survey of the state of acquisition and cataloging, networked databases, and digitisation projects in order to demonstrate the wide range of work connected with newspapers and to provide a starting point for improving current methods and developing new systems. In view of the already existing associations and task groups, the author concludes with a suggestion for the improvement of cooperation among all the institutions and actors involved.
