Abstract
Background: Dramatic decline in the living standards, during last decade of last century affected health situation and accessibility of General Practitioners, and Primary Heath Care of population in Kraljevo municipality, especially the most vulnerable categories of the population. Study objective: Assessment of vulnerability of population of Kraljevo municipality, their basic health needs, and accessibility of General Practitioners. Design and methods: The study was cross sectional, health interview survey with representative sample of two stage randomized cluster of households of the population of Kraljevo municipality. The mode of data collection was face to face interview with specially designed questionnaire. Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) was used for statistical analysis of data, and hypothesis were tested with X test and T test. Results: In Kraljevo municipality, below poverty level was 69,2% of domicile population, 84,8% of internally displaced, and 75,7% refu(p<0,01). Almost one half (48%) of the respondents considered their health as a regular source of problems, and out of those it was found that 44,3 % considered, hypertension as the main problem with their health, 29,4% considered chronic osteo-muscular condition and 20% considered that heart disease/ infarction was the main problem of their health. It was found that 91,8% of respondents claimed that, if they were sick they would seek care first with a doctor (General practitioner), but 2/3 respondents didn't have regular doctor. Out of those not having a regular doctor (68,9% in total), around 1/2 respondents thought that reason for not choosing a regular doctor was that doctors were changing all the time. Almost 21,9% people who belonged in a group of absolutely poverty level, and 9,7% people below national poverty level didn't have doctor near the place where they lived. Almost 9,9% residents who lived above national poverty level considered that they didn't have right to choose a doctor (p<0,01). Conclusion: Poverty was very extensive in Kraljevo municipality, and residential status was one of important determinants of poverty. Hypertension was one of main health problem. Although almost all population would seek care first with GP (general practitioner) if they were sick, majority of them didn't have regular doctor. Out of those not having a regular doctor majority thought that reason for not choosing a regular doctor was that doctors were changing all the time.
