Abstract

This paper is a review of publications about viral infections of the upper respiratory tract in children with regard to recurring infections which can be consequence of a lack of treatment, inappropriate therapy or accompanying diseases. Perhaps an impaired condition of immunity may lead to recurring infections. In this review a great deal of attention has been given to the mechanisms and the varies stages of viral infection and the onset of an organism's defence mechanisms against viruses. The below function of the immunomodulatory and immunostimulatory medicinal product, namely inosine pranobex has been described in in vitro and in vivo studies. A review has been presented of the antiviral activity of inosine pranobex and the onset of cellular and humoral immunity.
