Abstract
The inverse scattering transform method is applied to the stimulated Brillouin backscattering (SBBS) interaction of nonrectangular laser and signal envelopes in an amplifier experimental setup. Specifically, the Zakharov-Manakov problem is solved for the complete spatial and temporal evolution of laser and signal pulses which are characterised initially (before interaction) by rapidly rising envelopes with exponentially decaying tails.
