Abstract

The article analyzes the construction of masculine identity of the characters from Tadeusz Konwicki’s Sennik współczesny through their relationships with women. By referring to the war experience as an element organizing the category of masculinity, the author relies on the works of the German sociologist Klaus Theweleit to analyze the male gaze. She also uses the key psychoanalytical categories, such as the Oedipus complex, and demonstrates their usefulness in interpreting the function of the Romantic myth in Konwicki’s works.
