Old Polish translations of Italian dramaAbstractThe text discusses the most important problems raised in Jadwiga Miszalska’s book The Songof the Tragic Playthings Teaches us Virtue: Translations from Italian as a Source for PolishSerious Drama till the end of the 18th Century (Kraków, 2013). The author drew attention tothe place that the translation from Italian takes in the Polish culture and literature and notedthe fact, that choice of texts for translation, the way of reading, the changes to which thetranslators of the Italian dramaturgy decided have become a source of knowledge about thehistory of literature, literary trends and reading (and scenic) expectations of the time.Keywords: literary translation, Italian drama, Polish translations
