Abstract
Cicatricial ectropion of lower lid is a challenge to most ophthalmologists, as management requires complex procedures like skin grafts. However, Z plasty is a good alternative. Medial cicatricial ectropion is an even more complex problem to deal with, since not much tissue is available to work with, as opposed to lateral ectropion, where loose skin and soft tissue are available. We successfully managed two such cases with Z plasties using a technique which is quite simple and can be easily practiced by general ophthalmologist.
Highlights
The first was a 60 year old male who had sustained facial trauma as a result of bear mauling. He had a medial ectropion with a deep scar extending vertically for 5 cm below the lid margin, leading to epiphora and exposure keratitis (Figure 1)
The second case was of a 45 year old man with trauma to his right eye following a road side accident
On examination he had a medial ectropion with a deep scar extending vertically downwards and laterally, alongwith a scar on the right side of the nose (Figure 2)
