Abstract
The hexagonal lattice seen in the Z-line of the flight muscles of belostomatid water-bugs is formed by the interposition of the I-filaments of adjacent sarcomeres. The I-filaments are not continuous across the Z-line; they are presumably cemented together by the amorphous Z-line material. Connecting filaments, which have been reported join the A-filaments to the Z-line in dipteran and hymenopteran flight muscles, do not appear to be present in the belostomatid flight muscles.
