Abstract

Purpose –The purpose of this paper is to investigate the mediating role of work engagement on the effect of core self-evaluation on presenteeism. Design/methodology/approach –The sample of the study consists of 293 sales employees of service sector institutions such as various banks, communication, hotels and restaurants. The data collected by convenience sampling method was applied to correlation and regression analyzes. Findings – The findings of the study showed that core self-evaluation had a positive effect on work engagement and presenteeism; work engagement had a positive effect on presenteeism, and work engagement had a mediating role on the effect of core self-evaluation on presenteeism. Discussion –Core self-evaluation and work engagement emerged as determinants of the emergence of presenteeism behavior. The results of this finding are emphasized for human resource management practices.
