Abstract
It is shown that in a closed shell atom with a large number of electrons, N, the zero- and first-order Z-expansion coefficients are given approximately by E0(N) approximately=- beta N1/3+1/2-1/18 beta 2N-1/3 and by E1(N) approximately=1/2 beta N4/3, where beta =(3/2)1/3.
