Abstract
ABSTRACTYardcraft Repair, Berthing, Messing (Large)'s [YRBM(L)'s] support ships and submarines during overhauls by providing habitability, workshop, office, classroom and stowage facilities. This paper discusses the recently delivered YRBM(L) 31 from design through activation, illustrating the value of designer/owner/user interaction. An “on‐site” design approach was utilized, in which a design team visisted existing YRBM(L)‘s and worked directly with occupying crews to incorporate fleet lessons learned. The paper highlights the improvements obtained by this approach, including reduced cost and improved fleet support.
