Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify the usage of YouTube’s academic channels among faculty members of an engineering university of Karachi, Pakistan. A survey was conducted to collect the data from the faculty members of an Engineering University of Karachi. The collected data were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). An inferential statistical test—t-test—was used to find whether there was a difference in sharing videos on YouTube between male and female faculty members. Finding shows that most of the faculty members were passive users of YouTube. Of the 131 respondents, 76 (58.01%) just use YouTube to watch the videos. On the other hand, 55 (41.99%) were active users. They subscribe to academic channels and upload their videos. The result of t-test showed that male faculty members were the active users on YouTube as compared to female faculty members. This is original work; no previous work has been done regarding the usage of YouTube as learning tool specific to the Engineering Faculty at a university in Pakistan. Readers will learn how effective usage of YouTube University can allow them to make their own academic channels and preserve their videos; viewers around the world can view their videos and get academic assistance.
