Abstract

Soa Aids Nederland (SANL) and Rutgers invite Dutch teenage girls to share their experiences on contraceptive use and to learn from each other. Using a blend of social media this is done through Britt Talk; six short films including a call for action. Research results in the Netherlands showed that Dutch girls need more knowledge and positive attitudes to make informed and healthy decisions regarding use of contraceptives. In this process, many girls rely on experiences of their peers. Last December the series of 6 films was launched on Sense.info. This is the most visited website on sexual health for young people aged 12–15 in the Netherlands. SANL and Rutgers partner in moderating this site. In six different episodes Britt Talk discusses the contraceptive pill, plaster injection and ring, the IUD and Implanon. Each episode is hosted by Britt Scholte – a popular Dutch female moderator on YouTube (116,000 followers) – and another female YouTube celebrity. All hosts are between 17–21 years old.
