Abstract

On July 28, NHS England announced that the UK's only dedicated gender identity clinic for children and young people—the Gender Identity Development Service (GIDS) of the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust (commonly known as the Tavistock clinic)—would close in the second quarter of 2023, and be replaced with regional care centres. The move follows criticism of the clinic in an ongoing independent review led by Dr Hilary Cass (former president of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, UK).
