It was one of the first articles I read on the field of treating problematic sexual behaviors (PSBs for short) in children and adolescents by one of the founders of the PSB treatment field (and one of the three people who taught me how to treat it), Dr. Mark Chaffin. Chaffin (2008) wrote this article as a commentary on the misguided, and often ineffective, policies surrounding intervening in PSBs in youth. Unfortunately, his commentary is still as relevant now as it was over a decade ago. Chaffin (2008) focused on four areas of misconception regarding this population: risk, specialness, homogeneity, and intransigence.
