Abstract

Abstract It is known that colour influences childen's performance on both perceptual and cognitive tasks. The present study investigates colour combination preferences on a VDU by young children performing a simple perceptual task. A comparison with Swedish research indicates a number of important correlations between colour combination preferences by the subjects of this study and reported improved legibility of text on a VDU by the much older Swedish cohort. Some of the ramifications for the production of educational materials for use by young children working with microcomputers are discussed. Suggestions are provided for further research in the area which might provide evidence for correlations between perceptual preference and improved learning.
