Abstract

In September 2014, Legacy Interactive released a hidden object-meets-roleplaying game for PC based on the classic television series, The Twilight Zone (1959-1964). This paper examines the use of the music in The Twilight Zone: The Game and its contribution to the aural aesthetic that CBS music department worked so tirelessly for the television series to achieve. By using some of the most prominent musical motives and sound effects from the television series’ scores, or in some cases creating modified versions of them, the game functions as much more than a role-playing game: it immerses the player in a nostalgic world.
